Low Carbon
With advances in turbine technology the project is able to deliver substantial environmental benefits, by offsetting CO2 emitted by electricity produced from fossil fuels.
Low Cost
Onshore wind energy is now the cheapest form of new power generation in the UK, and consequently can contribute to controlling consumers energy bills into the future.
Security of Supply
The wind is a stable renewable resource, not subject to the vagaries of international geopolitics of supply. Furthermore, with the potential inclusion of new energy storage technology, the scheme may also be able to provide grid stabilisation services to the National Grid, ensuring that communities and businesses across the region continue to receive a stable capacity, frequency and voltage of supply.
Community Benefit
In line with industry best-practice, a community benefit fund of £5,000 per MW would be offered for the lifespan of the wind farm (once operational) for environmental and community projects or initiatives. We are particularly inviting thoughts and comments from the local community as to how this can best be put to good use.
Community Shared Ownership
The Government recently asked the renewables industry to consider offering shared ownership of onshore wind projects to communities.
